People Who Make a Difference
(Free)

Last year, James Russell Lingerfelt met with the staff from William and Keats Publishing and discussed ways they could tell great stories through film. The company's motto, "books that make a difference," sparked the idea for an interview series, where W&K would meet with popular names and movements that were leaving a positive impact on society. Thus, People Who Make a Difference was launched. To read Lingerfelt's commentaries on the interviews, you can find the related subject headings on his blog.

Made in the Streets of Africa (Free)

In 2006, James Russell Lingerfelt and Dusty Breeding (founder of Lifebread.org) arrived
in Africa to help build the ministry, "Made in the Streets"; a mission to rescue street
children from physical and drug abuses within the slums. Upon their return to the
States, Lingerfelt created this documentary with Prime Focus Studios founder Robert
Moehr. The documentary is currently used as classroom material in Intercultural Studies
courses at different universities across the States.

The Heart and Mind of a Christian Fundamentalist (This project is undergoing)

Lingerfelt is currently writing this book, which examines how a fundamentalist mindset begins and develops, the foundational underpinnings of it's philosophy, and how people can be led out of fundamentalism. The book is writtern as Story; a fictional tale follows a passionate young character who is raised in a fundamentalist environment. Through diverse university encounters, teachers, and life experiences, he is shown how and where his fundamentalist leaders "got it wrong." This book is excellent in helping readers understand the underlying philosophy of right-wing extremism in both political and religious thought.

The Warrior of Ephes Dammim
(Sold Out)

Written for an adolescent audience, this book made Lingerfelt the youngest writer to land on the JC Choate Best-Seller's list. After selling out within two years, the publisher approached Lingerfelt about a second printing, but Lingerfelt refused, saying he no longer agreed with most of the book's messages. The story follows a teen growing up in a small southern town where he discovers that the teachings of Christ conflicts with the religious surrounding culture that mixes southern mores with Christianity. Lingerfelt began writing the book at nineteen and finished it at twenty-three. The book is currently being rewritten, but will not be scheduled for release until after the debut of The Mason Jar in 2012.

Articles (Free)

This is a collection of articles Lingerfelt wrote during his seminary years at Pepperdine. The articles are published in a contemporary magazine whose main audience is college students and campus ministers. Lingerfelt's first article, Barth on Marriage, discusses scholar Karl Barth's approach to the various reasons people choose celibacy or marriage, and teaches that the marital covenant is not something to be taken lightly, nor to be pursued as a result of social or familial pressure. A Glimpse into Islam was written after Lingerfelt spent the summer of 2005 in North Africa where he lived with an Arab Muslim family and received private tutoring in Islam and the Qur'an from an Islamic Studies instructor. Lingerfelt made the decision to study Islam under Muslims to gain a clearer picture of the religion. In Love vs Lust, Lingerfelt writes that these are two actions often confused for one another. Each concepts are examined in the essay and helps identify unclear boundaries. Purpose in Pain challenges the reader to ask, "This has happened to me. But what will I do despite what has happened?" Readers are encouraged to ask how they can use their pain to ease hurt in others, and go on to make a positive difference in other's lives. Peter Pan Ideology reminds us that maturity is something that does not happen naturally, but is rather a virtue that we must strive to attain through wise actions. Getting a Better Grip on God teaches that with our finite minds, we simply cannot grasp the infinite mind, which is God's. All we can know of Him is based on experience with nature and revelation.
